According to law 2007/04 of 3 July 2007 dealing with handicrafts in Cameroon, crafts are divided into three main categories:
- crafts (which involves the making and marketing of cultural and aesthetic works based on the optimal use of natural resources;
- production craft (which advocates uniqueness in the manufacture of goods of common use without the use of industrial standardisation) and
- craft service (distribution on a small scale of goods and small services necessary for ordinary living).
Craftsmen are therefore artists who sculpt, weave, shape, model and paint.
