The craftsman's trade

According to law 2007/04 of 3 July 2007 dealing with handicrafts in Cameroon, crafts are divided into three main categories:
  • crafts (which involves the making and marketing of cultural and aesthetic works based on the optimal use of natural resources;
  • production craft (which advocates uniqueness in the manufacture of goods of common use without the use of industrial standardisation) and
  • craft service (distribution on a small scale of goods and small services necessary for ordinary living).

Craftsmen are therefore artists who sculpt, weave, shape, model and paint. In the past, craftsmen used to make only decorative objects; today they offer fashion products, especially with the emphasis of products customized to African prints (rather dutch WAX exploiting the idea or reality of African cultures.). This leads to a proliferation of workshops in Cameroon where you learn how to customize your shoes, bags and other fashion accessories. For the rest of your wardrobe you contact the professionals directly.
